DEVOTION
ENCOURAGEMENT
The wells of the Lord are found where most I need them. The Lord of the ways knows the pilgrim
life, and the wells have been unsealed just where the soul is prone to become
dray and faint, At the foot of the hill difficulty was found a
spring!
Sometimes I am foolish, and in my need I
assume that the well is far away. I
know a farmer who for a generation had carried every pail of water from a
distant well to meet the needs of his homestead. One day he sunk a shaft by his own house
door, and to his great joy he found that the water was waiting at his own
gate! My soul, thy well is near,
even here! Go not in search of
him! Thy pilgrimage is ended; the
waters are a they feet!
But I must “draw the water out of the wells of
salvation.” The hand of faith must
lift the gracious gift to the parched lips, and so refresh the panting
soul. “I will take the cup of
salvation.” Stretch out thy “lame
hand of faith,” and take the holy, hollowed energy offered by the
Lord.

JANUARY Words for Thoug
A world without Christ would be a world without
hope.
The best way to know God’s will is to say, “I will” to
God.
What sin has twisted God’s grace can straighten.
God made his home with us, that we might make our home with
God.
Joy comes from the Lord who lives with us, not from what’s
happening around us.

Comfort
When a problem overwhelms you
And you cannot see your way,
Find a quiet place to listen . . .
Hear what Jesus has to say.
There are times we overlook Him –
Times when we forget He’s here,
But He never will forsake us
For He holds us all most dear.
Every single bit of worry,
Every single bit of grief,
If unburdened to our Saviour
Will be
blessed with sweet relief.

The combination of great power and great restraint is
well-know in civilized life and in the laws of nature. The fire that warms the room when
properly regulated, will, if abused, reduce the proudest palaces to ashes. The river, which softens and refreshes
the landscape, if allowed to escape its bands, can devastate the most fruitful
fields.
In pointing out the terribleness of God, I do not appeal to
fear . . . We do not say, ”Be good, or God will crush you.” That is not virtue, that is not liberty
- - it is vice put on its good behavior.
It is iniquity with a sword suspended or its head.
The
great truth to be learned is that all the terribleness of God is the good man’s
security. When the good man sees
God wasting the mountains and the hills and drying up the rivers, he does no say
“I must worship him or he will destroy me.” He says, “The beneficent side of that
power is all mine. Because of that
power I and safe. The very
lightning is my guardian, and in the whirlwind I hear a pledge of benediction.”

WHY IS THE BIBLE CALLED “The Bible”?
The word comes from the Greek “Byblos”, the name of the city
in Phoenicia which produced papyrus, the first paper, for the Greeks.
The work “biblia” was then coined to describe little books,
and since the Scriptures are essentially that - a collection of little books - the
word Bible was used to describe them.

Live Each Day for
God
Don’t fret about tomorrow
Or live in yesterday.
Concern yourself with current things
And do your best today.
Tomorrow lies beyond the stars,
Beyond the sleeping sun,
And yesterday lies in the past
And cannot be undone.
Live life in the present tense
And wisely spend your time,
For time is such a precious things
You dare not waste a dime.
Set your sights on a worthy goal
And choose the path you’ll trod.
Your tomorrows will be brighter
When you
live each day for God.

I distinctly remember the day when I left home to face lived,
amid its crowned ways, for my self.
My father, whose philosophy was certainly that of the Hebrew wisdom, gave
me (Proverbs 3:5-6) as providing complete guide to life. All such failure, such turnings aside,
such wanderings, have resulted from leaning to one’s own understanding. The measure in which I have trusted
Jehovah, and acknowledged him, has been measure of walking in the paths of real
life. Doubt of God, pride of
intellect, and independence in volition, these are the things which blight and
blast. Paths chosen for us by God
all lead onward and upward, even when they seem to us to turn about in
inextricable confusion, and to move downward to the valleys of humiliation and
suffering. He is the SLL-WISE, and
to him, wisdom is the way by which love gains his victory

Great is God’s
Mercy
Great and merciful is our Lord,
A gracious god
is He;
His mercies are new every morning,
They’re there

So often we fail our Saviour

But if we will ask Him for mercy
Mercy to us
He’ll show.
God says He is rich in mercy
And mercy so
oft’ we need.

His mercy is great, indeed.

I want to start my 5 year out by encouraging any body who
haven’t been reading their Bible daily start today; don’t want another
moment. The Bible: the more your
read it, the more you love it; the more you love it, the more your read it (From
Daily Bread December 31, 2001).
I read in the Daily Bread someone summarized 2 Timothy 3:16 by
saying: “God’s Word shows us which
road to take (doctrine). It tells
us when we get off track (reproof) how to get back on (correction); and how to
stay on (instruction in righteousness).”
God’s
Word is a precious gift. So let’s read it through this coming year.

The Bible is a lamp from God,
A sword of truth and light;

strength
He was crucified through
weakness” (2 Corinthians 13:14).
Jesus Christ represents God limiting his own power for one purpose: He died for the weak, for the ungodly,
for sinners, and for no one else.
“I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” (Luke
5:32)
The
“strong man” idea is the one that appeals to men, the strong man physically,
morally, strong in every way; the kingdoms of men are to be founded on strong
men and the weakest are to go to the
wall. History proves,
however, that is the strongest that to the wall, not the weakest.
In
all trade and commerce there is oppression, and we try to justify it b saying
that the weakest must go to the wall.
But is that so? Where are
the mighty civilizations of other days?
Where are the prehistoric animals, those colossal powerful
creatures? It is they that have
gone to the wall. The great blunder
in kingdoms among men is that we will demand strong men is that we will demand
strong men, consequently each kingdom in its turn goes to the wall because non
chain is stronger than its weakest link.

What was the greatest love in the Old Testament?
That would have
to have been Jacob’s love for Rachel.
According to
Genesis 29, he fell in love with this daughter of Laban and agreed to work for
her father for seven years in order to win her hand.
But at the end
of the seven years, Laban tricked Jacob into marrying Rachel’s older sister

In order to win
Rachel, Jacob agreed to another seven years of servitude – though the second
